Know Your Limits

I’ve mixed feelings about alcohol.

But it’s usually just fine

To have a beer on the weekends

Or enjoy a glass of wine.

But when the drink begins to change you,

It’s hard to toe that line.

If you wake up to the scent

Of gin on your breath

And all your money spent,

Spiraling deeper into debt;

If you find it hard to function

Without a lemon shandy,

If you live your days drunken,

Drinking every kind of brandy…

I beg you to resist.

Be who your loved ones miss.

It may be tough,

But enough’s enough!

Return from the abyss!

  1. Thank you very much for sharing this! I actually have a family member who is currently suffering from alcoholism, and this is such a clever way to spread a warning about alcohol. Like many things, it’s okay in moderation. But much more than that, and it can change you as a person. I especially love the last stanza. It has such a powerful message. Thanks again for sharing! 💞

    1. Thanks for reading, Haley. I’ve had a lifetime’s worth of issues with alcoholics. I try not to be a buzzkill, but there’s merit to the warning, I think. So glad you liked it!

      1. No problem! I was happy to. My family has only been dealing with this for a few years, but it’s enough that I wouldn’t ever wish this on anyone. There’s definitely merit to the warning, and I think it’s a good one to share. And yes, I did!
