My Sister

Oh, my sister
Do you remember when we’d whisper
Through paper-thin walls at night?
When we ceased to fight and instead
Made pacts, with fingers crossed on our beds?

Oh, my sister
What happened to those days
When the future seemed so far away
And all we had was each other to play
Until we aged and those memories faded.
Tell me, sister, were we jaded?

Oh, my sister
To think of what we might have been
Had our lives not taken turns and spins.
I could talk to you instead
Of writing what I wish I’d said

My sister, my ‘sisser’
I hope this makes you smile
I miss the times when things were better
I’ll never forget John’s gray sweater
And all the things that go with
Having a big sister who you miss.
